Introduction
Ayurveda suggests that disease is created by a crisis of toxic build-up in our bodies.
The key to prevention of disease is to eliminate toxins before we become overloaded with them.
Ayurvedic literature indicates the following regimen to help the body deal with toxicity:
- appropriate lifestyle, habits and exercise
- administering a proper cleansing program such as panchakarma
The Process
Panchakarma (five actions) is a cleansing and rejuvenating program for the body, mind and consciousness. It is known for its beneficial effects on overall health, wellness and self-healing. You can benefit in the following ways:
- eliminate toxins and toxic conditions from your body and mind
- restore your constitutional balance improving health and wellness
- strengthen your immune system and become more resistant to illness
- reverse the negative effects of stress on your body and mind
- enhance your self-reliance, strength, energy, vitality and mental clarity
- bring about deep relaxation and a sense of well-being
- reduce dependence on drugs and medicine
- implement positive lifestyle changes
We would like to offer Panchakarma in 2010. However, at this time we have no set times in place. If you are interested, contact us to discuss dates that could work for you.
The basic program would be as follows:
- An orientation on Sunday evening before your program begins on Monday
- An Ayurvedic consultation assessment
- Daily Ayurvedic treatments of approximately 2 1/2 hours consisting of:

Abhyanga (a 2 person synchronized oil massage)

Svedana (individual herbalized sweat therapy)

Shirodhara (pouring of warm oil to the forehead)
- Daily consultations with a Panchakarma consultant throughout the week to monitor your progress
- A special therapeutic diet of kitchari and herbal teas provided daily
- Lifestyle and diet recommendations specific to each individual
- Recommendations for herbal rejuvenatives for you to take after panchakarma
- Post panchakarma health and wellness program for healthy diet, exercise and lifestyle practices
- Ayuryoga recommendations to assist in eliminating toxins and excess doshas which have a therapeutic and restorative effect on the system
- A supportive environment that provides space for true contemplation and self-healing
During Panchakarma it is advised to get plenty of rest, and to avoid strenuous exercise, sexual activity, late nights, loud music, television and similar stimulating experiences. It is a time to go deep within, both mentally and emotionally, and to observe one's thoughts and experiences. It is also advised to take particular care to keep warm and away from the wind.
A mono-diet of kitchari and ghee is recommended, as well as essential restrictions on cold drinks, cold food, caffeine, white sugar, recreational drugs or alcohol and dairy products - all substances which should not be resumed until some time after panchakarma is completed. The reason for this diet is that during the cleansing process the digestive fire (agni) takes a rest. Kitchari will provide adequate nourishment, is very easy to digest, nourishes all the tissues of the body, is excellent for de-aging of cells and assists in the detoxification and cleansing process. Kitchari is a mixture of rice and mung dahl, and is basic to the Ayurvedic way of life. Basmati rice and mung dahl both have the qualities of being sweet and cooling with a sweet aftertaste. Together they create a balanced food, an excellent protein combination that is tridoshic.
Panchakarma is an effective and powerful self-healing process. It can bring about significant improvements in your health, wellness and vitality. You too can experience these benefits!
